What does Colets mean to you?

I have lived in the area for 35 years and I visit Colets six times a week for exercise.

Colets is professional with a personal touch. It offers me the opportunity to meet people and stay fit in a lovely environment. I've made many friendships here over the years!

How did you first become a member of Colets, and what drew you to the club back in 1992?

While I was working in the city, a colleague mentioned Colets to me. Given its convenient location, I thought it would be the best fit for my needs.

Can you share some of your most memorable experiences at Colets over the years?

There are so many! Back in the day, we had outdoor aerobics sessions, hypnotics classes, and a running club called Colets Runners and Ploders (CRAP) led by another member. The staff once put on a fantastic show called Cinderella. We also had member of the month events and rewards. I remember the days of the mixed sauna and when managers would take step classes.

“The activities and events have always been engaging and diverse”

Are there any events or activities at Colets that stand out in your memory?

Yes, the activities and events have always been engaging and diverse. The running club and the staff's involvement in activities have been particularly memorable.

How have you seen Colets change since you first joined in 1992?

Colets has grown significantly. There are now new facilities, a new pool, and a more professional atmosphere. The range and diversity of classes have increased, and there is a greater inclusion of younger members, making the club more family-oriented.

What improvements or developments have you appreciated the most over the years?

The changing room facilities and the one (almost two) major gym renovations have been particularly impressive.

Are there any changes you’ve seen that surprised you or that you found particularly impactful?

The development of the studio space has been impactful. When I first joined, there was only one studio, and now there are several, which has greatly improved the variety of classes available.

How has the community at Colets influenced your experience?

The community is what makes Colets special. Without it, you could go to any club. It's a personal experience here, and you get to meet new people. Working out at home during Covid was tough, and it was wonderful to come back and see the familiar faces in my classes.

Have you formed any lasting friendships or connections through your time at Colets?

Absolutely. I’ve made numerous connections and it’s wonderful to hear about the lives of fellow members, including their children and families. There’s a sense of continuity here, with familiar faces like the ladies at the desk.

What personal goals have you achieved during your time at Colets?

I wouldn’t call myself a fitness fanatic, but joining the running club enabled me to complete the Kingston Half Marathon. Completing the Half Marathon is a milestone I’m proud of. It was a significant achievement for me. I’ve also participated in gym challenges, such as the rowing challenge where I got on the board.

“I’m excited about the introduction of the Reformer Pilates classes and can’t wait to start”

What are your current goals or aspirations within the Colets community?

I want to try new things, continue making friends, and interact with the community more. I’m excited about the introduction of the Reformer Pilates classes and can’t wait to start. It’s important to try new things and keep your routine fresh.

What advice would you give to new members of Colets?

Don’t underestimate what you can do, and don’t be afraid to try new things. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here! Enjoy the ride.

Frances’ story of long-lasting friendships, personal achievements, and the joy of trying new things embodies the spirit of Colets. We’re proud to be a part of Frances’s journey and look forward to continuing to support and inspire all our members in their pursuit of health and happiness.
