The Surrey Summer leagues will be getting underway in May. Colets will be entering four men’s teams and one ladies’. Good luck to all involved.
Staying with team squash, at the end of April we turn our attention to the National Club Championships which will be taking place at Edgbaston Priory Squash Club on the 27th and 28th April.
The format this year is slightly different with the finals’ weekend featuring only the semi-finals and finals. We are very pleased that both our men’s and ladies’ first team will be involved having both made it through very tough quarter finals recently. The winners of the National Club Championships will go on to take part in the European Club Championships later in the year – this year’s tournament is being staged in Edinburgh.
Our men’s and ladies’ teams will be joined by our Over 45s and Over 55s teams who were crowned champions in 2018. The standard at this year’s finals is set to be higher than ever!
Representing Colets will be:
Men’s Team – Daryl Selby, Richie Fallows, Rui Soares, Sean Conroy, Scott Handley and Nick Mulvey
Ladies’ Team – Emily Whitlock, Ally Thomson and Lauren Briggs
Over 45s – Alex Couch, Andy Normile, Darren Withey and Jeanette White
Over 55s – Darren Withey, Adrian Jaski, Alan Thomson, Tammy Bennett and Kim Ricks
Good luck to all four teams – we will be keeping our fingers crossed for some more silverware this year! A big thank you in advance to our supporters who will be making the trip to cheer on Colets. Your support makes a huge difference. If you are thinking of going along then you can get full details from David Peck.
Back in Thames Ditton,April sees the Colets’ Club tournament getting underway. Matches begin after Easter and the finals will take place on Friday May 24th from 5pm. There will be 12 different categories including Men’s, Ladies, Doubles and Juniors. This year we have 117 players entering, all hoping to be crowned Colets’ Champion 2019!
Junior squash continues to go from strength to strength. The coaching sessions are filling up and under the watchful eye of our Junior Development Coach, Neal Brooker, there are some talented young players coming through. Our Junior sessions offer coaching for children from the age of 6 years up to 16. If you are new to Junior Squash and would like to see if it’s for you then why not contact Neal or David to arrange a free trial session?
Finally, Club Night is as popular as ever. Every Friday from 6:30pm, Club Night is a great chance to play some informal squash, get to know other squash-playing members and to enjoy a drink in our Sports Bar afterwards! If you are available to play during the daytime then don’t forget that we also run two squash mornings – these take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10am.
